Advocacy Day 2015

Come join us at the State Capitol to help promote recovery to our state policymakers on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

Recovery advocates from across the state will be uniting at the State Capitol in Jefferson City to bring awareness to our elected officials that people can and do recover from substance use disorders when provided adequate support and services.

It is extremely important that members of our general assembly see and hear from their constituents across the state. We are the evidence that individuals recover from substance use disorders if given the opportunity with treatment and ongoing recovery support services.
There are many pathways to recovery.  Whatever pathway worked for you, we want to make sure that opportunity of recovery is available for all those who still suffer from addiction.  It is imperative that you share with your elected officials,  in your own words, what worked for you. How will those who make decisions for you and I know what works if YOU don’t tell them?

As recovery advocates, it is up to ALL OF US to share our knowledge and personal lived experience with others.  Our elected officials are NOT addiction specialists.  YOU are the expert when it comes to your recovery and you need to share your knowledge with them.   It is up to each of you to share the kinds of environments and the types of activities and support that promotes your continued recovery wellness and/or promotes recovery for a loved one.

Addiction is often perceived by the general public and our legislators as a moral weakness and attempts to overcome it futile. We know that is NOT true!  By demonstrating the reality of recovery, providing the tools to achieve it and advocating for better policies promoting recovery, we can shift the paradigm.
