There is plenty of evidence that exercise can be an effective facet of treatment to support recovery from the disease of addiction. Runwell encourages a healthy lifestyle early in treatment, and supports the continuum of care by providing an active social network of likeminded individuals who believe in recovery, many of them struggled with addiction firsthand and are in active recovery, or experienced it through a loved one. The organization’s mission is to provide access to drug and alcohol treatment programs through financial scholarships from funds raised during events around the globe.
Runwell is represented throughout the country, thanks to the volunteer efforts of its Ambassadors who encourage others to get involved, speak openly about the disease of addiction, and raise funds by participating in events such as marathons, half marathons, 10k and 5k races.
Dan Bridges is a Runwell ambassador who leads the West Central Missouri group. Like most Runwell ambassadors, he’s become a pillar in his respective recovery community. He has particular interest in supporting the work of drug courts as an effective alternative to incarceration for individuals suffering from addiction.
In 2015, Bridges participated in the Missouri Race Series to raise funds used as incentives for participants of the Pettis County Juvenile Drug Court. His 2016 goal is to take on the TCS New York City Marathon to raise funds for the Adult and Juvenile Drug Courts in Pettis County.
Dan and his group, Runwell West Central Missouri, are currently seeking others that would like to participate in this or similar events to assist Runwell in raising awareness and funds so that those struggling with addiction can receive the life-saving treatment they need. Consider joining us and helping to change lives, one footprint at a time.
